FC Athletico vs Twin Falls Rapids

March 15th, 2008
4 - 1

Snowball fights and Soccer Balls!

The day started with a bit of confusion as the Idaho Falls teams were called while driving (somewhere near Burley), and told to turn back, that the games had been canceled due to unsafe playing conditions. Undaunted by the weather the Idaho Falls players called back and informed the Twin Falls teams that it was to late to cancel. Twin was kind enough to rally their kids but the uncooperative referees declined to show.

Everybody chipped in and worked to line the fields and move the snow with just a bit of playful activity on the side...

After a bit of warm up it was decided that Coach Meyer would ref, (without a whistle) and the game began. Strong play from the start resulted in a flurry of goals.

Less than 5 minutes in, David stole the ball and advanced to the center of the field. Spotting Miguel charging downfield he made a pass, Miguel placed it nicely to his feet off of a chest trap and then in mid stride struck it home for the first goal!

Minutes later, Michael caught another player on a nice cross that left the goalie helpless as FCA scored GOAL number 2!

On one of many corner opportunities, a player curved the ball in for Jose Luis but he put a little two much sauce on the curve and the ball flew through everybody landing untouched in the back of the net for Goal #3!

The Rapids took advantage of a defensive miscommunication and scored the 4th goal of the game, but FCA rallied right back with a strike from Ruben drilled into the net after riding from Miguel's shot, bouncing off the keeper's hands and deflecting off the crossbar for FCA GOAL #4 and a great end to the half!

With FCA ahead 4 - 1 at the half and owning the majority of possession on the pitch.

In the second half Dylan Waterman swapped sides to assist the beleaguered Twin Falls team and was far too effective. Knowing Victor and Miguel's wiley ways he was often the force that shut down FCA's runs to the goal.

The final score: FCA 4 - Rapids 1.

Oh, and the "DANGEROUS PITCH" that the local referee's were afraid to venture out on? By half time the sun was out and the field was clear....
